Enriching the soil with a good ol' fashioned POO-Haul

After sourcing a couple tons or so of manure from Iwig dairy, we hauled it down to our future garden space in order to enrich the soil with additional nutrients and organic matter required for productive plants. Pictured is a friend of our's Carrie Swim, who volunteered to spend the afternoon helping us unload some manoo and check out the space. Thanks for the help Carrie!!

The sunflower state in September, sooooo beautiful

Greg Bryson from Bryson Dozer - Building our driveway

Despite a profound respect for nature, sometimes in order to appreciate it and utilize it for human purposes the land must be subdued to a certain degree. In this case, we needed access to our property in order to bring materials on it, and eventually bring produce off in an efficient manner.

After careful observation, we determined to create our drive way where the tree line was thinnest. Although a fair amount of earth was required to create a road over the irregular terrain on our property line, Greg Bryson from Bryson Dozer did a great job of only taking out the trees which were absolutely essential to the project. In doing so, he provided a lot of great firewood in addition to a substrate for mushroom log cultivation. We are taking slices of some of the maple trees which were in the way and inoculating them with lion's mane, phoenix oyster, and reishi mushroom spawn. We hope to enjoy the first flush in about a year.
